Mojave and Sonoran deserts of southeastern California to southern Nevada, and northwestern Arizona.

Habitat

Sandy desert soil.

Tiny golden-yellow flowers with heads only 1/4 inch wide bloom March through June

Description

This small woolly, gray, tufted plant grows only as high as 4 inches. Longish, oval 3/4-inch leaves taper to short stalks. This member of the Sunflower Family may produce only one flower head in dry seasons, but under wet conditions will branch repeatedly near the base and produce numerous flower heads.
